TIME:2020-11-19

The oral care of infants and young children is the responsibility of every parent, and it is also one of the problems that Baoma and Bao dads are very concerned about. Rong Wensheng, chief physician of the Department of prevention, School of Stomatology, Peking University, was interviewed by xinhuanet.com to teach you how to properly protect the oral health of infants and young children.

Rong Wensheng suggested that women should have an oral examination before pregnancy to deal with oral problems and hidden dangers before pregnancy, so as to avoid pregnancy with dental diseases. After pregnancy, eating habits will change, to maintain more oral hygiene.

When the newborn is just born, the oral cavity often has some secretion, this is a normal phenomenon. Nursing newborn oral cavity, can regularly feed some warm boiled water to the baby, used to clean the secretion in the mouth, in order to keep the oral cavity clean.

After a baby's teeth erupt (between six months and one year old), the mother should learn to brush the baby's teeth. This time the cleaning is relatively simple, no need to use a toothbrush. "After washing hands, the mother should wrap a clean gauze around the index finger of her right hand, dip a little boiled water into the child's mouth, and wipe the newly sprouted teeth." Rong Wensheng explained.

Before a child can write fluently, parents need to brush their teeth or assist in brushing their teeth. Parents should choose the small head toothbrush, use the method of drawing small circles, brush teeth, pay attention to whether the child shows discomfort, so as to master the strength.

In addition, the amount of toothpaste used by children is different from that of adults. The amount of toothpaste used by children under three years old is about the size of a big grain of rice, about 0.1g; the amount of toothpaste for children over three years old is about the size of peas, about 0.5g.

"It is often said that eating more sugar can easily lead to dental caries. In fact, all sugary foods and carbohydrates, as long as they stick on the surface of teeth long enough, bacteria will use it to produce acid and cause dental caries, but sugar produces acid faster than other carbohydrates." Rong Wensheng proposed a scientific way to eat sugar: to reduce the frequency of eating sugar, try not to eat sugar every day; after eating sugar, you should gargle and brush your teeth.

For the maintenance of oral health, Rong Wensheng suggested: we should form a good habit from childhood -- eating and drinking, gargling frequently, brushing teeth in the morning and evening, using fluoride toothpaste, and asking the stomatologist to do an examination every six months to one year. Do these, healthy teeth can accompany for life!
